What reasons are there to trust the Christian faith?
Beginning or reconnecting with the Christian faith means placing our trust in Jesus. It is reasonable to ask what evidence there is before taking that step.
Christianity is rooted in events that Christians believe happened in history. The New Testament preserves the testimony of the earliest Christians about Jesus’ life, teaching, miracles, death and resurrection.
Jesus’ followers said that they encountered him alive after his crucifixion. Their conviction changed them from frightened disciples into people who publicly proclaimed that Jesus had risen and was Lord, despite the risk of persecution and death.
Christians also point to what has happened since: people finding forgiveness, purpose and a new direction through Jesus, and experiencing God’s presence, guidance and strength through the Holy Spirit.
Christians believe that the life and resurrection of Jesus, the testimony of his earliest followers and the continuing work of the Holy Spirit give strong reasons to trust the Christian faith.
Faith does not require every question to be answered before we begin. Christians believe that there is enough evidence to take an honest step towards Jesus, place our trust in him and begin living as one of his followers.
