Who is Jesus, and why does he matter?
Christians believe that God came to earth as Jesus and lived among us as a human being. Through Jesus, they believe that people can see what God is like and come to know him personally.
Jesus taught people to love God and one another, forgive others, turn away from wrongdoing, and live with mercy, humility and justice. He invited people not only to listen to his teaching, but to trust him and follow him.
Christians believe that human sin separates people from God. They believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we could be forgiven and reconciled to God.
They also believe that Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. His resurrection shows that death is not the end and that he has opened the way to eternal life with God.
For Christians, Jesus is God. He came to reveal God to humanity, bear the consequences of human sin and restore the relationship between people and God.
Through Jesus, Christians believe that people can know God, receive forgiveness, learn how to live and share eternal life with him.
