Help me talk to Jesus
Talking to Jesus is prayer. You do not need special words, a particular place or a perfect understanding of faith before you begin.
You can speak honestly about what you believe, what you doubt, what you hope for and what you are afraid of. You can also sit quietly if you do not yet know what to say.
Jesus taught that prayer does not need to be impressive or complicated. He said:
“Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Matthew 6:8
Prayer is not about finding the perfect words. It is about beginning an honest relationship with God.
You could begin in your own words, or you may choose to use the prayer below.
Jesus, I want to begin walking with you.
I do not understand everything, and I may still have questions, but I am willing to begin.
Help me to know you, to recognise what is true and to learn how to live with love, courage and kindness.
Please guide me as I take my next steps.
Amen.
You do not have to feel anything unusual for the prayer to matter. A relationship grows through honesty, time and continued conversation.
You can talk to Jesus wherever you are, at any time, using your own words. You can speak aloud, pray silently or write down what you want to say.
